Freestyle Connectables

I enjoy creating designs that will connect with other similar designs if they are butted up side to side. I refer to this technique as Connectable and have done many such pieces in a variety of formats. The designs here, which I call Noodles, I first sketched out in pencil, then inked the lines, then printed those and finally colori in the prints. I have done four basic Noode line designs and have colored in copies of each. Each drawing has six Noodle endings to a side that will align top, bottom and sides to a copy of itself as well as other similar Noodle drawings. The following pieces are those colored in efforts.

Grid Connectables

Grid Connectables are earlier versions of my Connectable art. I designed these first six grid 'Connectables' using a cross-stitch program, outlining the heavier lines of the grid on the computer into 'tentacles' so that the ends of each tentacle met at the outer edge directly across from the other side so that they would 'connect' if placed edge to edge with another similarly designed grid. I colored these tentacle areas so that they smoothly would connect if they were placed adjacently. The center top yellow tentacle of the first piece corresponds directly with the center bottom tentacle. There are three tentacle endings on each of the four sides of the art which all correspond to the endings on the opposing sides so that turning the square would still maintain the tentacles aligning with each other. Top, bottom or sides all align with each other for each of the pieces below, so they all will 'connect' with each other to create interesting mazes.

Millennialight

Millennialight was completed on the Millennial of 2000. It is a variation from the other grid Connectables in that it has seven 'tentacle' arms on a side instead of the three the others have, so it is a much more complicated piece. Three of the tentacles arms will align with the other pieces, but will dead-end after that.
Irregular Connectables
The following Connectables are rectangular rather than square, so they will 'match up' only top to bottom or side to side.

This is a direct variation of Fascinating Rhythm, with the tentacles connecting in different places while maintaining similar appearance

This is an earlier creation and is a bit on the wild side.
